Beyond Dreams: Monica Vazquez Ayala

The exhibition continues the annual cycle “The awarded artists”, being Mónica Vázquez Ayala the third artist selected by the Museum after Ana Matías and Elena Jiménez in previous editions.

The works that make up the exhibition are photographic captures of the author’s dreams. Her adolescence was marked by her fondness for reading and the dreams it aroused in her. Dreams have taught her to live inside other skins. Even inside evil, until she became convinced that she was the opposite. The symbols of the scenographies created by Mónica Vázquez Ayala in her work are as much intended as they are found.

Her relationship with the Museo del Grabado has been intense, having been recognised in the National Printmaking Awards, commissioned in the edition of “12 artists, 12 months” (on the occasion of the Museum’s twentieth anniversary), selected for the exhibition “Four neighbouring gazes” (2022) and her work even being the subject of a lecture given by the critic José Manuel Sanjuán as part of the cycle “Rescuing the artist” (2015).

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue -downloadable and free of charge- in which the writer Marina Perezagua has collaborated.
