The switching on of the lights officially marks the beginning of the Christmas season in Malaga. It is an exciting moment when the streets are illuminated with thousands of coloured lights, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere.

This year, the Christmas lights switch-on in Malaga will take place on the 24th of November from 7pm.

Larios Street Show

The Celestial Angels of Calle Larios, this year again there are 16 four-metre high angels supported by 32 lateral columns. Their 12 metre long tails are designed with effervescent effects, starting in warm white and ending in pure white. The music played at each show will be Jingle bells by André Rieu and the Johan Strauss Orchestra; We wish you a Merry Christmas; Carol of the bells by Pentatonix; Epic Christmas and To Bethlehem goes a donkey. Of course, you will also be able to listen to some of the tunes that were also played last year.

The timetable for the shows will be as follows: at 18:30, 20:00 and 22:00 every day except 24 and 31 December. The first show will coincide with the daily switching on of the lights. In addition, for the first time on 27 and 28 December, verdiales can be heard in Calle Larios to give prominence to Malaga’s most ancestral melody.

As for the show in the Cathedral, this year it is called Angel of Light and is a completely new architectural projection-video mapping. This video will be projected on the façade of the south side of the Mocha tower, telling the story of a little angel that will merge with bright images and reproductions of gigantic stained glass windows.

The activity will be shown at 19:00, 20:30 and 22:00 every day from 1 December to 4 January, except 24 and 31 December. It will last approximately eight minutes.

Lights of the Alameda Principal

It should be noted that the Alameda Principal will have a lighting system between the branches that will be illuminated at night and during the day in a completely new way. This will be an intertwined system in the form of a luminous forest that enhances the splendour of the ficus trees themselves. In total, in the Alameda there are 270,000 LED points and 4,500 points of the network known as forest. In addition, two more luminous almond trees have been placed on the sides of this area of the city than last year.

New lighting

Among the new decorative elements are the luminous figures of the Three Wise Men at the entrance to the Alcazaba tunnel. In Calle Echegaray there will be pieces of angels with trumpets. In the Plaza del Carbón square there will be coloured Christmas balls hanging from prayer bows. In the Plaza de Jerónimo Cuervo at the Cervantes Theatre there will be a decorative tree made of gilded material and glitter.

Calle San Juan will have a unique decoration that divides the street into three different luminous spaces. On the one hand, visitors will find an area of luminous Tinsel, the next area will be Luminous Tears, and finally The Magic Cave. Glowing golden tinsel, giant micro led batons and a cavern of lights with stalactites will be the protagonists of these areas, respectively.

In Calle Molina Lario, Sancha de Lara, Don Juan Díaz, Bolsa, Stranchan, Moreno Monroy, Martínez, Alarcón Luján, Manuel Pérez Bryan, Álvarez Fonseca, Marín García and Liborio García there will be a special decoration based on chandeliers. In total there will be 76 three-dimensional chandeliers made up of four faces linked by micro-flash cords hanging around the city centre.
